Glasgow & The Pogues (III)

12nd December 2006, Tuesday
Carling Academy in Eglington Road, Glasgow
THE POGUES
Opening act: Junkman's Choir

Straight To Hell dei Clash.

If you can play on the fiddle, how's about a British jig'n'reel? Speaking King's English in quotations, as railhead towns feel the steel mills rust water froze in the generation. Clear as winter ice, this is your paradise...eccomi cantare la mia canzone dei Clash preferita nella Carling Academy, con il cuore a mille perchè stanno per salire sul palco i Pogues. Un quarantenne con la maglia dei Pogues a strisce bianco-verdi, di evidente ispirazione calcistica Celtic (/kelt(ik)/) Glasgow, uno di quelli che deve aver vissuto sulla sua pelle l'era di Clash e Pogues, mi mette un braccio attorno alle spalle e mi fa "Yeh must be a huge Clash fan, yeh know the bleedin' song by heart!" e si mette a cantare assieme a me. And then the Pogues came and shook the floors of hell: si parte con Streams Of Whiskey, poi If I Should Fall From Grace With God. Il terzo pezzo è The Broad Majestic Shannon, e oramai sono innamorato dei Pogues, del concerto e di Glasgow, e ora del quarto, Turkish Song Of The Damned, non capisco più niente.
Questa la setlist:

Fiesta

Yer Scottish, yeh should be proud of yer nation!" "I'm nae Scottish!" "Yeh Irish?" "Nae!" "So why don't yeh wear yer nation's jersey?" "For me national team's a bunch of sissies!"...questo ci pensa un po' su, poi mi fa "It-ly?" "Yep!"). Mentre la neve finta cade sul palco, e gli ubriachi si abbracciano e cantano ("All the drunks they were singin', we kissed on a corner, then danced through the night") in un'atmosfera veramente stupenda. Prossima tappa: BRAZENHEAD.
